Now do a calculation how many deaths are caused by a lack of electricity, including indirectly due to collapsing economy and subsequent brain drain.
I’ll take the benefits of stable electricity supply to millions of people over the 300 pollution deaths a year any day.

If you move into an area that is known for sinkholes, do you accept them when they happen or blame the Dept of Land Affairs?

Comment on Industry disappointed in delay in EV policy for South Africa by Mark Elkins https://techcentral.co.za/industry-delay-ev-policy-south-africa/234525/#comment-166208 Fri, 03 Nov 2023 04:16:54 +0000 https://techcentral.co.za/?p=234525#comment-166208 1 – Remove import tax from pure BEV imports – perhaps also drop other taxes for a year or three so to encourage adoption of EV’s

2 – Give some free land to Tesla to build a gigafactory – to include battery and vehicle manufacturing. This will employ vehicle manufacturer workers. It will also allow various African countries to export required minerals to S.A.
3 – Get Tesla to build a people carrier to replace the minibus. Imagine a Taxi that obeys the rule of the road!

South Africa can then export BEV’s to the rest of (Sub Sahara) Africa!

Worldwide, the ICE vehicle will be replaced by BEV – let’s not be last to change for the better.

Showmax cutting off international streaming – why? if the account is paid, let them stream.
Netflix with its shared password issue (which they started) are now preventing users not under the same roof to stream. If I pay for 4 streams, and they limit the number of streams very well, I should be able to use those 4 streams anywhere in the world. Its paid for.

Well it’s R699 which includes showmax for premium. Seems well priced to me.

It’s sport that cost the most. Sport rights. They also have to buy this from overseas which cost alot. Overseas people don’t care what we earn when selling rights to DStv.

If your salary cannot buy premium start with what you can afford. I don’t have dstv as I cannot afford it. I live within my means.

Buddy, DSTV costs about 25% of your months salary if you earn minimum wage in SA. Whereas the overseas packages costs less than a days salary. The contrast is huge.

And no you don’t pay what you get for. Nobody cares about any dstv content except sport mostly. You can get high speed fibre and two streaming services with much more content for the same price.

But they said same thing since 2008.

Eskom once said the cost of load shedding is 84/kWh (Meaning it cost SA R1bn per stage per day, more than R259bn-R520bn/year).

Then Eskom it says the cost of load shedding is only 1/3 of that. So treasury confidently told us load shedding cost SA only about R90bn a year.

Meanwhile SARS tell us cost of load shedding is R900bn a year. Our electricity minister say it costs R1400bn a year.

Andre de Ruyter told us himself Eskom emissions cost SA 17 000 deaths a year.
Enough of the bull. Can we get adults in, to do the sums please?

More likely labour and associated costs. Don’t see how this gonna change that.

A ruling party in gov is “supposed” to already be the most popular party voted in by citizens, and enjoy majority support.

The Government can go stuff themselves. Vote anyone except the ANC (and EFF with similar views) in 2024.
They continue to acknowledge there are problems but continue to not listen to experts and apply the necessary fixes, which includes reducing one of the biggest Governments in the world, reducing the Gov spend, and reducing the Ministerial salary spend. All they want is more and more money, but fail to recognise that there are limited funds from a small number of taxpayers.

No ev’s, no Starlink, no digital tv for decades, no electricity, water, roads, hospitals …

Useless cadres ! … please let’s rid SA of them in the May 2024 election!

Most ANC leaders have come through COSAS/SASCO/ANCYL to find themselves in parliament/municipalities/government, The majority with zero industrial or business experience. When they become ministers (this is based on popularity -highest nominations) they then surround themselves with ill qualified cadres in those offices. It is these young people who dont know what is going on in the world. You just need to listen to Mbalula to realise that we are in deep trouble. The first step we need is putting structures to enforce Good Governance but this can only come with a total mindset change. The disaster we see is Man-made and even the ANC ( bad as it is) can solve it should they chose to.
