day. When I answer it just cuts off or I get a short message. I still
haven’t worked out what they selling. Its feels like they are getting
some type of data. Its the network that is responsible. While this type
of mining or whatever cannot be done without the network. I have found
that over 90% of these calls are via MTN. If I had 1 device with 1 MTN
sim-card I obviously could not make this claim. I realize to get
accurate data I would need to monitor hundreds of devices. But when I
have 2 devices active with 2 sim-cards = 4 active sim-cards. All these
calls are coming from the 2x MTN sin-cards. The other thing I have
noticed is it seems I receive about the same amount of these calls from
both my MTN sim-cards. While I use 1 of the MTN sim-cars for calls,
making calls the other one I only use for data. The number is not used
to make calls. I can only assume its the network that not only
facilitates this type of ‘illegal’ activity but provides the numbers as
well. I also find MTN uses questionable and tricky sales techniques. I
suppose they can literally do anything as we have seen and even if they
get caught all they do is pay a fine. To start with the amount of the
fine if converted would work out to R2.50 a guess. So if I break the law
or take actions that should be breaking the law and all I have to do is
pay a couple of Rand. Its a joke.

They were already taken to court and fined by ICASA but I don’t have the means to take them on. Thankfully, Truecaller blocks them automatically. Without truecaller, I’d delete my number…

This was literally a dealbreaker for me. Truecaller, on Android, is managing the blocking of Robocallers really well right now.
